Who we are
Chartered in 1829, the Regional Medical Center at Memphis — “The MED” — is proof that the oldest hospital in Tennessee can also be one of the most advanced. The MED is the only level-one trauma center in Memphis and its 150-mile radius, and it is home to five designated Centers of Excellence. The MED Foundation has been instrumental in The MED’s pursuit of excellence since 1986 when a $50,000 gift from Elvis fans established the foundation.
What we do
The mission of The MED Foundation is two-fold. First, it raises funds for special projects (nonoperational), such as purchasing state-of-the-art equipment and providing special training for staff. Secondly, it aims to raise awareness of The MED’s excellence.
Why it matters
Equipment and training is essential to The MED’s role as a world-class, acute-care teaching hospital that takes on the toughest medical challenges from a six-state region. Through its partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, The MED has provided training to half of the physicians practicing in Tennessee. If you live in this region, there is a one in four chance you or someone you love may need The MED’s life-saving capabilities one day.
