Suzanne does everything she can to help others. When she traveled to visit a friend who had just lost his brother and nephew in an auto accident, Suzanne became the one in need. A vehicle struck her car, trapping her inside and unconscious with life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, Suzanne was transported to The MED’s Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center, the only level-one trauma center within 150 miles of Memphis. That meant the right specialists, the right equipment and the necessary amount of blood was ready to go when Suzanne arrived. Arriving at The Trauma Center, her husband, Jeff realized that his wife’s lungs had collapsed and that she wasn’t breathing. Her brain was bleeding and irreparable damage had been done to her spleen and gallbladder, and her pelvis was fractured in four places. However, Suzanne’s injuries were no match for medicals staff the Mid-South’s only Level One Trauma Center. "The skilled health professionals at The MED cared for me night and day like I was one of their own,” said Suzanne. “I should have died several times. If it weren’t for The MED I wouldn’t be here." Called a miracle patient by staff, Suzanne has made a full recovery and even puts The MED on her visiting list, delivering cookies and encouragement to the staff that saved her.
