As a popular golf pro, Greg Farm has planned many golf tournaments for the Memphis area over the years, including the legendary Spaghetti Open. A few years ago, he thought about establishing a charity golf tournament that honored the firefighters of 9/11.

But his firefighter friend, Mike Lavoie, had a better idea.

Mike had personal experience with how the Burn Center saved lives. He was battling a home fire when the burning building collapsed on top of him, encasing him in heat, flames, and unbearable agony. Fortunately, Mike was rushed to the best care available in the region at the Firefighters Regional Burn Center at The MED.

Mike knew he owed his very survival to them and had already hosted a very successful golf tournament to benefit the Burn Center himself. But he was always on the lookout for new ways to support the team that gave him back his life. That’s why he suggested Greg support the Burn Center, too.

Greg immediately loved the idea and successfully re-launched the Spaghetti Open. After just a few years, this invitation-only golf tournament is a highly sought after venue for area golfers. Now Greg sees to it that every check for Tee Signs and Corporate Sponsorships is made out directly to The MED Foundation. He then adds these checks to Mike’s own tournament donations.

This September 10th and 11th, the Spaghetti Open will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. Once again, dozens of checks from generous donors will be going to The MED Foundation. It’s all thanks to a firefighter saved and a friendship that’s never in the rough.
