Andrew

Andrew, healthy and back on a bikeIt was a beautiful summer morning when Andrew Seamons and his cycling buddies were streaking down the street at racing speed. With the sun in his eyes, Andrew didn’t see the deep crack in the pavement that caught his bike’s wheel and sent him hurtling through the air. And he never felt himself hit the ground.

When Andrew came to, he was in an ambulance and the EMTs were deciding where to take him. They quickly realized there was only one good choice: The MED.

Andrew spent the rest of the day in the Trauma ER at The MED. “In a strange sort of way, it was quite comforting,” he explains. “There was always someone around; I was under continuous watch, and they were incredibly attentive in caring for my every need. Despite the horrific pain, I had peace of mind knowing the unbelievably talented hands I was in.”

To determine just how extensive Andrew’s injuries were, he was given a full body CT scan. It turned out he had eight broken bones – including ribs, shoulder, and back – as well as a severe concussion.

Andrew spent the next few days under the watchful eyes of The MED, including regular assessments by the traumatic brain injury specialists. Going home, he spent two full weeks sitting in a special chair that helped limit his movement while keeping him relatively comfortable. And, just a little over a month later, he was largely recovered and anticipating getting back on his bike and rejoining his team.

“I’m not the first member of my family to have such a good experience at The MED,” Seamons declared. “My mother-in-law was taken to The MED awhile back. Just like me, she was very well taken care of.”

“Too many people just don’t realize how good The MED really is – the doctors, the staff, everyone. I’m sure glad that is where I was taken after my accident. It’s the best choice for severe trauma the entire region, hands down.”
