- Opened in 1983, the center is one of the five centers of excellence at The MED.
- The center is a nationally recognized Level 1 trauma center.
- The center is the third busiest trauma center in the country and has seen more than 65,000 patients since opening.
- The Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma center is the only one of its kind in the Mid-South covering a 150-mile radius air and ground service area, which includes five states and a population of more than 3 million people.
- The center treats patients who are critically injured by automobile, home or industrial accidents as well as those who have blunt or penetrating wounds.
- The center has a team of skilled trauma personnel who treat life-threatening injuries on a daily basis 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- The 24-hour trauma team includes trauma surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, CRNA's, medical students, respiratory therapists, orderlies, x-ray and lab technicians.
- The center has 2 shock trauma rooms for initial assessment of all trauma patients and 13 non-critical assessment and treatment rooms.
- There are 19 trauma Intensive Care Unit rooms, a dedicated operating room along with surgical suites and a recovery room.
